Joseph T Noony is a medical doctor and independent scholar whose passion for Indian philosophy and Indo-European history led him to explore the surprising links between ancient Asian and Mediterranean cultures. Raised in Kerala and educated in medicine, he has spent years studying Sanskrit, Prakrit and Greek sources and sharing his insights on cross-cultural influences through articles and talks.
On his Twitter account (@joeagneya) he engages with readers on topics ranging from comparative religion to historical linguistics. Tathagata is his debut book. In it, Noony synthesizes his research to reveal how early Christian texts may have drawn from Buddhist literature and ideas. Away from the page, he enjoys trekking and spending time with family. Will of the Tathagata is the first edition from his 7 series book that he intends to publish.
A groundbreaking exploration of how language, manuscripts, ethics, monasteries and politics reveal deep connections between early Christianity and Indian Buddhism.
This debut book contends that early Christian texts were written in Greek rather than the Aramaic spoken by Jesus, drawing heavily on Buddhist sources. Through seven “anomalies,” it shows how Christian scriptures, ethics and institutions were profoundly shaped by Indian literature and philosophy that author defines as Indian Idealism from the time of Vaishali
